Government plans for choice

Speaking during the second reading of the Education and Inspections Bill, local MP Tim Farron labelled the Governments' proposals for creating choice in rural communities a nonsense. Tim also branded the bill as an 'urban bill' which ignored many of the issues faced by parents and pupils in South Lakeland.

MP commemorates anniversary of the Battle of the Somme

Local MP Tim Farron submitted an Early Day Motion yesterday to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. The EDM also recognises and acknowledges the vital work of the Royal British Legion today in supporting ex-service men and women. The EDM has already attracted signatures from cross-party MPs.

MP pleased at OFT proposals for grocery market - but asks 'what about the farmers'?

Local MP Tim Farron has expressed his delight at the OFT proposal to ask the Competition Commission to conduct an investigation of the UK grocery market. Tim has given his full support to such a decision. If the proposal goes ahead, the commission will examine the effect of large supermarkets on local grocery suppliers. New Liberal Democrat leader promotes

The new leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Menzies Campbell has today promoted local MP Tim Farron to become his first Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS). As Sir Menzies' PPS, Tim will be responsible for ensuring that Sir Menzies is kept well informed of backbench opinion and for advising him on current developments within the Parliamentary Party at Westminster.

MP vows to keep pressure on PM

Tim Farron has today vowed to keep up the pressure on the Prime Minister after the Prime Minister failed to answer the question Tim put to him during Prime Ministers Questions. Tim asked the Prime Minister to act urgently to stop shared ownership properties from being entirely bought out, a process which is eroding the stock of affordable houses in the South Lakes.
