Farron backs Cumbria Police to stamp out racism

South Cumbrian MP Tim Farron has backed Cumbria Police to stamp out all racism within the force.

Figures uncovered by Tim reveal that over the last three years there have been nine complaints of racism received by the force. However, over the three years the number has been steadily dropping, with just one incident reported last year, compared to three the previous year and five before that.

In 2014, two officers were disciplined following complaints of racism and both resigned.

Tim said: "The overwhelming majority of our local police are thoroughly professional and do a fantastic job of keeping our communities safe.

"It is reassuring to see that the number of incidents has been going down, but even one incident is one too many. The police's role is to make sure that everyone feels safe. The force must do all it can to make sure that racism is completely stamped out within the force.

"Racism has no place in our society."
