Farron hails success win as county council scraps plans to charge residents for parking premits

Following the County Councils decision to finally drop their plans to charge residents for parking permits in disc parking zones, Cumbria MP Tim Farron has greeted this as a success for residents across the County.

Tim has previously slammed the Council's plans which were to bring in a £25 annual charge for residents' parking permits, which had previously been free as an unnecessary and unfair additional tax on residents.

The decision, which was made public when the council's ruling cabinet met to finalise its budget proposals for 2012-2013 before the full council next week.

Commenting this morning, Tim said: "Forcing residents across Cumbria to have to pay for parking outside their own homes is absolutely scandalous. I am hugely relieved that the Tory-led County Council has finally bowed to our pressure, backed down and dropped this ridiculous and unfair tax on local people."
