Final bank in Grange set to close

Commenting on the news that the last remaining bank in Grange-over-Sands, Lloyds, has announced its closure, local MP Tim Farron said:

"This is another huge blow to the community in Grange.

"For many older residents, online banking is not always something that is easily accessible or something that they feel comfortable using.

"We see countless stories of innocent people being robbed of thousands of pounds through online banking scams, with banks often refusing to fully compensate their customers.

"If this alarming trend of bank closures in our towns and villages is now an inevitability, then banks have a duty to start properly protecting people from the huge threats that come with online banking.

"The banks should also now start properly compensating our post offices who are increasingly now doing the bulk of their face-to-face work."
