Grayrigg questions still unanswered on second anniversary

Speaking this morning, on the second anniversary of the Grayrigg rail accident, local MP Tim Farron said:

"Two years on from the Grayrigg accident, it's time for a proper public inquiry so that lessons can be learned. Rail bosses have spent too long hiding behind the arrest of three rail workers when what we need is for the industry's approach to maintenance to be put under the spotlight. This is all the more important given the similarities between Grayrigg and the accidents at Potters Bar in 2002.

"At this time we should also remember the efforts of the local Mountain Rescue teams. It constantly amazes me that the Government refuse to exempt mountain rescue from VAT and vehicle excise duty given how much they save the exchequer by providing a rescue service on a completely voluntary basis."
