Kendal Post Office saved from closure following community campaign

Local MP Tim Farron has celebrated the news that Kendal Post Office will be staying open, after it was previously put under threat by plans to shut branches across the country.
In November last year, Post Office Ltd announced that 115 directly operated post offices were at risk of closure.
More than 2,800 people signed Tim’s petition calling for the future of Kendal’s town centre post office to be protected.
But in a letter to customers, Post Office Ltd have now confirmed that the branch on Stricklandgate will not be closing.
They said: “The branch will soon be operated by an independent franchise retail partner, ZCO Ltd (ZCO), from the current premises, offering the same wide range of services, and extended opening on Tuesday mornings.
“We are finalising our plans, and we anticipate this change will happen by September 2025.”
Responding to the news, Tim said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve won our campaign to save Kendal Post Office.
“This is such an important resource for our town, so for it to be closed or shoved into the back of WH Smith would have been a disaster.
“I’m really grateful to everyone who back the campaign and signed the petition – it’s another victory for community campaigning!”
