Lib Dems win over 50% of the vote in Windermere! Farron pays tribute to Colin, Dyan & residents

3 Oct 2014
The Liberal Democrats have selected local residents Colin Jones and Dyan Jones to fight the Windermere By-Elections on 2nd October.

Last night the Liberal Democrats won two by-elections in Windermere. South Lakes MP Tim Farron has paid tribute to the successful candidates Colin Jones and Dyan Jones and thanked local people for their support. The by-elections were held following the sad death of Councillor Jo Stephenson in July.

Colin Jones (Liberal Democrat) has been elected as the new county councillor for Windermere. The result was:

JONES, Colin: Liberal Democrats - 1061

BERRY, Ben: Conservative Party - 810

JUDSON, Robert Graham: Independent - 123

HARRISON, Gwen: The Green Party - 61

Turnout was up from 40.1% to 44.27%.The Lib Dem vote was virtually the same at the county elections in 2013. Experts believe the rise in the Conservative vote is down to UKIP not standing.

Tim said: "This result is fantastic and I want to thank local residents for their continued support. I'd like to congratulate Colin and Dyan, I know they will be wonderful councillors and champions for Windermere.

"This result shows our campaigns on bringing more health services, investment, jobs and apprenticeships strike a real chord with local people."
