LOCAL ITV COMPANIES PROVIDE VITAL SERVICE AND SHOULD BE PROTECTED

12 Sep 2007

Commenting on the speech by Michael Grade this morning, in which he questioned the future of regional ITV companies such as Border Television, local MP Tim Farron said:

"In communities such as ours, regional ITV companies provide a localised service which would simply not be possible if there were just 4 or 5 super-regions. A service from Newcastle or Manchester would certainly not be able to focus on Cumbria, South West Scotland and the Borders in the way in which Border Television are able to.

"I'll be calling on ITV's regulators to ensure that communities such as ours continue to receive the localised service which ITV is renowned for."
