MP calls on United Utilities to take action over sewage black-spots

20 Aug 2009

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has issued a call to United Utilities to join him on a tour of sewage black-spots in the local area.

The call has come as United Utilities refuse to deal with a number of problems with their sewage system in the South Lakes, which is causing sewage to back-up into areas used by the public in Burneside, Satterthwaite and Bowness-on-Windermere.

Speaking after issuing the call, Mr Farron said: "It's disgusting that United Utilities are not planning on taking any action on these black-spots, especially when the risk of the public coming into contact with raw sewage is so high. I want senior managers from the company to come and see for themselves the result of their decision, and I've asked the Environment Agency to join us so that they too can see the problems first hand."
