MP demands Government follow Northern Ireland and trust our teachers on GCSE and A-Level results

17 Aug 2020

Commenting on the news this morning from that GCSE results in Northern Ireland will be solely based on grades provided by teachers, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said: "Over the last few days my inbox has been inundated with heart-breaking stories of young people in the South Lakes failing to get into universities to help them get a career that they'd set their hearts on.

"The Conservatives' have made a complete pig's ear of A-Level results and are set to do the same with GCSEs, with the life chances of our young people put in jeopardy as a result.

"There has always been, and still is, a simple solution to this - just trust our teachers.

"So that's what I'm calling upon the Government to do today: scrap the unfair and convoluted algorithm system, use the teacher's predicted grades instead and give our young people the best future they can have."
