MP hails u-turn after financial support is doubled for the self-employed

Commenting on this afternoon's announcement from the Prime Minister that support for the self-employed will be doubled from 40% to 80% of trading profits, Cumbrian MP Tim Farron said: "I'm delighted that the Government have listened to calls to give the self-employed the same level of support offered to workers on furlough.

"However, I remain utterly frustrated that there is nothing for the newly self-employed - and freelancers, new starters and small directors of limited companies too - who have been excluded from any support for eight months now.

"I will keep pushing for the excluded to be included in new support to help them get through this crisis."
