South Lakes MP Tim Farron has planted a tree to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the opening of Promenade Gardens in Arnside.

Tim planted a Rowan tree in the gardens on Saturday morning, at an event attended by the Parish Council, local residents, and local councillors Pete McSweeney, Ian Stewart and Rupert Audland. The gardens were originally opened in 1936 to celebrate the new King Edward VIII.

Tim Farron commented: "The Promenade Gardens are a lovely place for both local residents and visitors to the village to enjoy. It was an honour to plant this commemorative tree on Saturday. I'd like to thank the Arnside Parish Council, as well as local councillor Pete McSweeney and local volunteers for all their efforts to make these gardens what they are."
