On the floor of the House of Commons this afternoon, Cumbrian MP Tim Farron secured a meeting with the Education Minister over support for rebuilding Lakes School.

Speaking during Education Oral Questions in Parliament, Tim said: “The excellent Lakes School at Troutbeck Bridge serves the communities of Windermere, Ambleside, and further afield with 11 to 18 education.

“But it is widely acknowledged the school needs a full rebuild due to it being well beyond its sell by date, buildings-wise.

“Now because of the unique history of this specific site, that I'm happy to brief the Minister about separately.

“It is very likely that we will have significant charitable and private funds which would help to go towards a rebuild so long as there’s some government support as well.

“So would he agree to meet with me and the school leaders to talk about how we can make sure that a brilliant school has a bright future?

Responding, the Minister for Schools, Nick Gibb said: “I’d be delighted to meet the honourable gentleman.

“We want all our school buildings, including excellent schools like the Lakes School in the Lake District, to have the best quality school buildings.

“That's our priority, and I'll be delighted to meet him and teachers from the school to discuss how to make that happen in his constituency.”
