South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed news that Eric Morton has today been appointed interim Chief Executive of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust (UHMBT).

Tony Halsall quit UHMBT Trust last month.

Eric Morton joins UHMBT with a wealth of experience within the health sector. Previously he was Chief Executive with a number of Foundation Trust's including Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Tim said: "I welcome Eric Morton to his role today. New leadership is needed to turn our hospitals trust around. I have repeatedly said that we need swift and decisive change to make the improvements that are so desperately needed to ensure the highest quality care for patients. I will be looking for an urgent meeting to talk about his plans for the trust and look forward to working together to improve patient care."
