MP welcomes news that Torchlight will go ahead

Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed the confirmation that this year's Kendal Torchlight Carnival will go ahead.

This year's event will take place on the 11th of September, following Team Leader Simon McElroy stating that it had found key volunteers to run the carnival in 2015. An urgent appeal was launched last month for people to give up their own time to fill management team positions.

Commenting, Tim said: "Torchlight is a wonderful event for the local community and a high point in the town's calendar. I'm really looking forward to it!

"The event is put on thanks to the generosity of its volunteers - both in time and effort and I'm over the moon that people have come forward to ensure that Torchlight will be on this year."
