South Lakeland named best place to live in the North for women

South Lakeland has been named the best place to live in the North of England according to research for BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

Of the 380 local authorities analysed across Britain, South Lakeland was ranked the 12th most desirable for women to live in.

The National Centre for Social Research analysis factored in issues such as the gender pay gap, affordability of housing and education. It used data from a number of sources, including the Office for National statistics' 2016 Annual Population Survey and the 2011 Census.

Commenting on the news, Tim Farron MP said: "I'm delighted that but not surprised that South Lakeland has been recognised as one of the best places in the country to live if you're a woman.

"It's a tribute to everyone in this wonderful community that make it such a special place to live that it features so highly up this list".
