Tim Farron blasts United Utilities for dumping millions of litres of sewage into Windermere

Responding to a BBC investigation which found that United Utilities repeatedly dumped millions of litres of raw sewage illegally into Windermere, local MP Tim Farron said: “This is an absolutely appalling scandal which proves once and for all that this rotten industry is no longer fit for purpose.

“The fact that United Utilities failed to report that they had dumped so much sewage into our precious lake is a joke.

“But I’m afraid what the Government has announced so far gives me very little hope that we won’t see a repeat of this in the future.

“We desperately need a new regulator with teeth and a complete reform of water companies where the environment is put ahead of profit.”
