Tim Farron meets with Education Minister over outdoor education campaign

This week, Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron met with the Minister for Early Education, Stephen Morgan, to progress his campaign to make outdoor education accessible for all.
Tim was also joined by Andy Robinson from the Institute of Outdoor Learning.
They asked the Minister for his department to undertake a study into how many children aren’t currently able to access outdoor learning opportunities and to find out what are the main barriers which are stopping them from doing so.
The Minister for Early Education promised that the Government would carry out this study.
Tim currently has a Presentation Bill going through Parliament which is calling for every child to be offered at least one outdoor education experience during their primary school years and at least one such experience during secondary school years.
Speaking after the meeting, Tim said: “Outdoor learning can build resilience, confidence, and a love of learning in children.
“It can improve mental health, physical health, and create friendships which last a lifetime.
“That’s why it’s so important that every child in our country has this life-changing opportunity.
“I’m really glad that the Government are undertaking a review into what barriers are stopping young people from being able to access outdoor education.”
