Yesterday South Lakes MP Tim Farron met with students from the South Lakes at Westminster to talk about the Browne Review and it's implications for local students

The University of Cumbria sent 150 students to the National Demonstration in London. After the demonstration Tim met with the students and he again pledged to vote against a proposal to raise tuition fees.

Tim said: "My job is to be Westmorland's man in Westminster and I cannot in good conscience vote for a further rise in fees for local students. I received a free education and I know that education really can make the difference - it changed my life. I want a higher education system that is free and fair for all. I can see the work that Vince has done in moving the threshold and working to make the proposals more progressive but I still cannot vote for these plans - I simply made a promise to young people and their families only a few months ago. Having made a pledge, its important to me that I keep my word."
