Trust must now demonstrate they are listening - Farron

Local MP Tim Farron, speaking after the public consultation meeting last night at Kendal Town Hall, says the Hospitals Trust must now demonstrate that they are listening.

"It's been said that in modern times we've never been more consulted and less listened to. The Hospitals Trust now needs to demonstrate that they are listening, and provide a fifth option which leaves vital services at the Westmorland General Hospital," says Tim.

"I'd like to thank the 500 local residents who managed to get into the Town Hall, and especially the dozens of people who couldn't get in because the Trust didn't realise the strength of feeling against the plans.

"One of the biggest concerns, not answered in the glossy document the Trust has produced, is what the costings are for the various proposals. It's also concerning that the Ambulance Service has confirmed that they will not be able to expand their services along the lines that the Hospitals Trust are suggesting.

"Thousands of local residents who care passionately about local health services will march against the plans in September. The trust need only say the word and these residents would undoubtedly turn their hand to fundraising to get the equipment and scanner which the Westmorland General would need to bring it up to standard."
