Tim Farron MP visits apprentices on local housing development

Local MP Tim Farron is encouraging young people in the area to consider starting an apprenticeship. Government figures show that more than two new apprenticeships are started each day in Westmorland and Lonsdale.

Promoting apprenticeships was a key Liberal Democrat achievement during the coalition, and these figures show that this was a success. Prior to 2010, there were just over 30 apprenticeships a month started in Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency. Now, the figure is at almost 70.

Tim said: "Many young people are currently looking at their future options and deciding what to do. I'd encourage anyone in this situation to look at the opportunities an apprenticeship offers to both learn and earn at the same time. The figures show that two new apprenticeships are started each day in our area - this could be you!

"Over the last few years both in parliament and in the constituency I have worked hard to promote apprenticeships. Since 2010, over 4000 apprenticeships have been created in Westmorland and Lonsdale, and more than 30,000 across Cumbria as a whole.

"I'd like to thank all the local businesses that have backed apprenticeships and given our young people these opportunities. I'd urge any businesses that haven't taken on an apprentice to consider doing so."
