South Lakes MP Tim Farron has accused the Government of hypocrisy by hosting an international summit on phasing out coal just weeks after giving the green light to a new coal mine in Cumbria.
Responding to the Chancellor's failure to announce any new investment for cancer services in today's Budget, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said: "I am astonished and horrified that this Budget does not contain a single penny for boosting cancer treatment and in fact the word 'cancer' isn't even mentioned at all in the entire Budget document.
Reacting to the Chancellor Budget speech, local MP Tim Farron said: "I'm glad to see that the Chancellor has listened to our joint calls with Cumbria Tourism to extend support schemes for local businesses, including the furlough scheme, the business rates holiday and the VAT cut for the hospitality sector.
Commenting on the news that people who became self-employed in the 2019/20 financial year will finally be eligible for Government financial support, local MP Tim Farron said: "This is something I've been worked hard with cross-party colleagues on for a long while, so it's a welcome relief that those who became self-employed in the year leading up to the pandemic will now finally be entitled to support.
In Parliament this week, Tim urged ministers to press ahead with plans for new emergency telephone masts in Kentmere, Longsleddale, and the Langdales.
Next Friday (5th March), South Lakes MP Tim Farron and Liberal Democrat candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Christie will host a virtual 'town hall meeting' to discuss rural crime.
