Minister refuses to back calls to reverse schools cuts

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has expressed his "disappointment" following a meeting today with the Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP. The Minister accepted that schools in Cumbria faced a £23million cut in funding by 2020, and that this could see 625 teachers cut, but would not waver from his view that schools had to make savings.

Minister warns farmers could face 40% export tariffs

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has warned that the government is showing a "dangerous complacency" about the impact of leaving the single market on the farming industry. Last week a leading government minister warned that agricultural exports could face tariffs of between 30-40% on their exports to the EU.

MP calls for increased awareness of cot deaths

Local MP Tim Farron has called for increased awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and the steps that can be taken to minimise risks for babies. The call comes following 'Safer Sleep Week' last week, a national drive to raise awareness of potentially lifesaving advice that parents can follow.

Farron's Leader's Speech to Lib Dem Conference

Today, at Liberal Democrat party conference in York, leader Tim Farron said the party is Britain's best vehicle for political change. He called for the party want to replace Labour and be the progressive opposition to the Conservatives. He attacked Labour for their failure to provide an effective opposition and slammed the Conservatives. He also called on business to 'dump' the Tories and for moderate Conservatives to defect.
