Farron welcomes County Show livestock go-ahead

Local MP, Tim Farron welcomed the news today that the livestock elements of the Westmorland County Show would be going ahead as normal. Mr Farron had been in conversations earlier in the week with senior officials at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, including the Farming Minister Lord Rooker, in an effort to obtain an animal gathering licence for the show.

"Prohibition of animal gathering must be relaxed" - Farron

Local MP, Tim Farron is calling for the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to relax the rules on animal gathering ahead of next months Westmorland County Show. Since the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Surrey earlier this month DEFRA has placed restrictions on animal movements and gatherings, but since it would appear that the disease has not taken hold, Mr Farron is keen for the Westmorland County Show to continue as normal with livestock.

Farron backs Age Concern in care charging battle

Local MP Tim Farron goes to the Age Concern AGM at midday today as county council bosses continue to push forward plans for charging for day care for the elderly. At the meeting, Tim will be talking to many people who make use of day care.

Concerns about rural post offices raised on MP's summer tour

Local residents have been raising concerns about the future of rural post offices on MP Tim Farron's annual summer tour. Tim is visiting around 50 smaller towns and villages across the constituency as part of his summer tour, allowing him to visit some of the places which he doesn't normally reach with his regular advice surgeries.

Time to improve road safety at Foxfield level crossing says local MP

Tim Farron MP is campaigning to improve the safety of the A595 at the level crossing by Foxfield near Broughton-in-Furness. This stretch of road is one of the most dangerous in the local area having seen 14 accidents in the last 3 years, with 3 serious accidents requiring an Air Ambulance in the last 9 months alone.

Farron calls together key players to help boost the 2008 Kirkland festival

Local MP Tim Farron has this week offered to chair a meeting between the organisers of the Kirkland Festival, the District Council and the Police to help smooth out the problems that affected this year's event. The future of the festival looked in doubt after new licensing laws concerning the sale and consumption of alcohol were introduced at the end of last year affecting Abbot Hall Park where the event is held annually.
