Local MP elected Vice Chair of parliamentary group to help dementia sufferers
The estimated 1355 people with dementia and the thousands who care for them in Westmorland and Lonsdale have won the support of Tim Farron, the MP for the area and Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia campaigning to make their condition a national priority.

Westmorland & Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has said that local people should feel encouraged to continue in the fight to save the heart and stroke units at the Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal after their success in winning concessions from the trust boards as part of their Acute Services Review.

MP expresses delight as FoI bill fails to find a sponsor
Local MP Tim Farron has expressed his delight at the news that the bill to exempt MPs from Freedom of Information legislation has failed to find a sponsor in the House of Lords. Although it would still be technically possible to bring the bill back, it is now most unlikely to be passed.

Blair concession on North Yorkshire unitary bid gives hope for Cumbria
The Prime Minister, Tony Blair gave hope to the campaign to oppose the bid to form a unitary authority for the whole of Cumbria during Prime Minister's Question Time today. In a response to a question from fellow Liberal Democrat Phil Willis, MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough about the proposals to create a unitary authority in North Yorkshire, the PM conceded that the fact that all the North Yorkshire MPs were opposed to the bid was 'very powerful'.
