Local MP Tim Farron has received more than 250 letters and close to a thousand people have already signed petitions against the Government's decision to put 43 local post offices under threat of closure. Tim's campaign against the closures has only been running for a matter of weeks and the response has been overwhelming.
Local MP, Tim Farron has written to North Yorkshire County Council challenging them to take account of new guidelines which make their proposal to close Baliol School even more ridiculous. The school, which is for children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties provides a vital service for children and their families and is an important and integral part of the local community in Sedbergh. The school is owned by North Yorkshire County Council but also serves many children from across Cumbria.
Local MP Tim Farron has tabled a parliamentary motion promoting the Sustrans Connect2 scheme which will see the creation of 79 new cycle and foot paths up and down the county. The motion also congratulates Cumbria County Council for participating in the scheme. In Cumbria, areas such as Coniston are set to benefit hugely from the new links that the scheme will create for cyclists and the benefit this will bring in terms of tourism and the environment.
The President of the National Farmers Union, Peter Kendall has said that he is 'delighted' to support Tim Farron's Home on the Farm initiative, calling it a 'win win situation for farmers and local people. The initiative would see disused farm buildings allowed to be converted into local affordable housing.
Local MP, Tim Farron spoke in the House of Commons last night during the debate on the Housing and Regeneration Bill, and voiced his concerns that inflexible planning rules - especially in the national parks - were preventing the provision of affordable homes for local people. As a result, Mr Farron expressed scepticism that the targets set by the Government would be missed due to this inflexibility on planning restrictions.
Local MP Tim Farron met today with Paul Snell, Chief Inspector of the Commission for Social Care Inspection to discuss the issue of care for the elderly. Mr Farron has received a number of letters from concerned relatives of care home residents and will be taking up some of these cases with Mr Snell.
