Farron: dire broadband figures show need for major investment

Two in five broadband connections in Westmorland and Lonsdale receive speeds under 10 Mbps, official data released this week shows. Local MP Tim Farron has said the government must do more to improve broadband access in rural areas, to boost the economy and support jobs.

Farron to press schools minister over massive cuts

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has arranged a meeting with the Schools Minister and other Cumbrian MPs to highlight the funding crisis that local schools are facing. Yesterday, a leading teaching union gave evidence in parliament expressing concern that the government was diverting extra funds towards new free schools while leaving existing schools to face vast cuts.

Prison fire figures raise safety concerns

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has uncovered figures showing that there were a record 2580 prison fires nationally last year, including at local prisons Haverigg and Lancaster Farms. Tim has said these figures raise concerns about staff and inmate safety.

£100million funding pot could give Kendal Urgent Care Centre green light

Plans for an Urgent Care Centre at Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal received a boost following the announcement of a £100million funding pot for capital investment to relieve pressure on A&E services. South Lakes MP Tim Farron has written to the Health Secretary and to local health bosses to call for this project to be given the green light.
